the bedroom…

I am proud to say that I have grown to appreciate the sanctuary of my bedroom. Merriam-Webster defines a bedroom (noun) as a room furnished with a bed and intended primarily for sleeping. (*I know what you’re thinking..lol)  With that in mind, I have removed the television and added low lighting, a water fountain, and soothing music to achieve the total relaxation intended.

Today, we have a variety of styles to choose from, from tradition to bohemian, contemporary to avant-garde…  you can define your design style through the use of color, textures, linens, accessories, etc. Currently, my taste involves a more sterile environment – white linen, neutral accessories, and light & airy window treatments. This definitely helps with the laundry – no more sorting and having multiple loads. What is your style?

Check out some of my favorite styles for the bedroom on pinterest… enjoy and don’t forget to turn off the lights when you’re finished! 🙂

A Decorator's Notebook

My love of grey is well known, but to team it up with gold is an interesting choice…..the obvious would be to coordinate it with silver, but as these images show, gold works really beautifully, particularly on furniture!

This silver grey velvet is lush and glamorous and teamed with the antique gold finish on that table behind it is just perfect!

A Decorator's Notebook

Welcome to part 3 of the Home Tour of my talented South African friend’s  lovely home…this post focuses on the master bathroom, family bathrooms , family bedrooms and the Media or Family room which are all situated on the second floor of the home.

Just off the glamorous master bedroom is an equally decadent master bathroom, complete with free-standing tub and his and hers basins…these magnificent mirrors are from France.

A view of the tub and a vignette of antique glass orbs and jars.

I adore art in the bathroom, and something bold like this magnificent piece above the toilet and bidet, is perfect for the space-once again , there are no curtains, but shutters, which filter the wonderful light.

Directly off the master bedroom landing is the media room ,where the family spend time  on the computer. and watching TV or playing TV games. It is a comfortable room…

Style To Impress

I love mixing vintage and retro pieces in my home even if I do not have a lot of retro furniture. One of my favourite stores and sources of inspiration in Sydney is Mitchell Road Auction Centre in Alexandria. Bring some time if you go there as it is huge area to browse through. Another fabulous find is Melbourne based company Retro Print Revival which does stunning retro lamps and lampshades. All their lamps are one-offs and unique pieces. Each design is made from original vintage materials for that authentic retro look. The lampshades are made with rare fabrics ranging from 1960’s floral and paisley patterns, to bold 1970’s geometrics. Check out their website for retro inspiration.
