…expressions of "your" beautiful things

Comment from DesignStaging: Although it’s still 98 degrees here in Houston, I am ready for Fall decor and the warmth the colors bring.

Interiors for Families

I SO wanted to do a post about summery, beachy, coastal decor today – we’ve spent several days at Second Beach here in Newport while on vacation, and I’ve been more inspired than usual. However, the fact of the matter is that fall is just around the corner, and for those of us (most of us) who are not fortunate to actually live on the coast of some body of water, that often means switching up the seasonal accessories.

I definitely will not be doing any elaborate autumnal accessorizing this year, as we’re moving in a couple of months, so I thought I’d live vicariously through others who have created beautiful fall vignettes that might inspire you to do the same. Click on the photo sources for more information on how to recreate these looks, or use them as a jumping off point to do your own thing!

Sanctuary Decor

How is it Thursday already?!?! I feel like yesterday was Sunday and I was pulling together my posts for the week. Whoops! Sorry about the gap in posts this week, but here’s something to spruce up the end of your day today…

And yes, I desperately want this first kitchen. The lights are flipping amazing. Ah-maze-ing.

Great DIY project!

I love mercury glass and have started collecting it. I am helping with a wedding in the next year and thought it would look very pretty at the reception for votive holders and vases. The only problem is the hefty price tag. So, I thought I’d try my hand at making my own.

For this DIY you will need:

Step 1:  Spray the inside with Looking Glass Spray.

Step 2:  Distress it!

3.  Repeat! Repeat steps 1 & 2 on the outside until you acheive the desired effect.

4.  Spray light coat of Looking Glass Spray over the outside.

And the result…

Style your breakfast area with a Banquette

photos courtesy of Houzz.com

I love the banquette! They are so functional in the dining/breakfast area. Pull away the table and you have a settee for additional seating….

I like the combination of style … a mix of traditional and country…

Creating a nook in the tightest space ….

and indulging the design with color, texture, and eclectic furnishing….

The Fabulous Scavenger

Last week I asked the question, what colour should I choose for this weeks colour inspiration? Well, one of my readers, Renea, requested lime green, so lime green it is.
Lime green is a fun, happy colour. It works really well in children’s bedrooms, I love it with dark brown furniture and white walls, and it also looks glorious with hot pink. I rummaged around my thrifty belongings only to find I really don’t have that much lime green in my decor. I gave it some thought and have come up with simple, cheap ideas to bring lime green into your life.

Here’s my humble little kitchen. I like that it’s white, so I can accessorise with any colour. Here it is wearing green. The platter that the apples are sitting on was a lucky side of the road find. Someone was getting rid of wine making equipment. There were…

Ever wanted to know where I go and what I do when I hire furniture, art and accessories for you?  We are lucky in Brisbane to have a number of companies that hire furniture on a short term basis.  I use Guest Group in Salisbury. Let’s go inside…

After I’ve looked at what you need – anything from a partial staging to a full staging, I send your hire requirements to my contact Matthew at Guest. He then draws up a quote and the required paperwork.  You sign the agreement and make a bank transfer for the full hire amount. I can then get to work choosing your items.

Guest is housed in 2 large warehouses which are boiling hot most of the year.  I get to wear my visitor’s neon yellow vest and enclosed shoes (Good not to dress in your best ‘I’m a stylist’ outfit – you’ll…

I love this work space provided by guest blogger Shelly! The color combination is one of my favorites.

Even a compact office space can have a high-end designer look, just as this space does.   I love the parson style desk extending out from the bookcase unit creating a work space that is efficient and functional while still maintaining a lot of style.

With so many home offices being designed around a white color theme, the grey is so refreshing.  Carrying the grey color from the desk unit onto the wall makes the space appear larger.

Little touches like the black arm-chair and white fretwork desk chair makes the space feel less like an office and more like a beautiful meeting space where work just happens to take place.

This is definitely a color palette and layout I’d love for a home office!

Interiors for Families

As a mother and devotee of family-oriented design, I probably look at dozens of photographs of nurseries online every single day – whether I’m shopping for my own child’s room, or just surfing great design sites and blogs. There is so much creativity out there, and it can be very inspiring. Before my child was born, I spent countless hours on these sites trying to pull together the elements of my son’s nursery. At the same time, I was doing tons of research on caring for infants, parenting, etc. – as a first-time mom, I really wanted to get it right and be super prepared when my son arrived.

These are some pictures that are relatively typical of what I found (note: the photos below are a mix of ‘selling’ images, and ‘design’ images).
